Upcoming changes to Ontario’s blue-bin collection, including in London , could leave some businesses and institutions either with hefty contractor bills or sending their recyclables to the landfill, observers say.
Starting Jan. 1, 2026, thanks to provincial legislation, responsibility for all remaining blue-bin collection across Ontario still being done by municipalities will fall to the national non-profit Circular Materials, paid for by the producers of packaging and paper products.
Circular Material will only do residential pickup, leaving an estimated 535 small businesses, non-profits, and other buildings, which presently rely on curbside pickup in residential areas, without blue-bin service.
