ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Diocese says St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Orchard Park will be staying independent and not merging with SS. Peter and Paul in Hamburg.

The announcement comes after parishioners appealed the diocese's plan to the Discastery of the Vatican, which sided in their favor.

"The Diocese will, of course, abide by this ruling and looks forward to St. Bernadette parish community fully incorporating into the Family of Parishes, which also includes SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Hamburg, Boston, and East Eden, and Nativity of Our Lord, Orchard Park," said Vicar for the Renewal, Father Bryan Zielenieski, in a statement to 2 On Your Side.
