A California fruit grower has voluntarily recalled peaches because of possible listeria contamination.
The recall covers Moonlight Companies’ yellow peaches and white peaches sold individually or in packages at stores nationwide between Sept. 16 and Oct. 29. Exempt from the recall are peaches whose stickers or packaging says “Washington” or “Organic.”
As of last week, no illnesses had been linked to the Moonlight peaches. The company said the recall was prompted by the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in a packing facility.
Listeria infection can cause symptoms including high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It can be fatal to more susceptible people, including children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms usually begin
