BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — A mudslide shut down the southbound lanes of State Route 7 between I-70 and I-470, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11.
ODOT said the closure is temporary as crews work to clean up debris that spilled across the roadway. The department said the slide came from a nearby hillside that gave way earlier today.
Photos shared by ODOT show thick mud and rocks covering portions of the highway, forcing traffic to stop.
"Yes, it looks like the hillside needed to relieve itself onto the roadway. All jokes aside, ODOT crews are on scene to begin cleanup efforts," the agency said on social media. "Please avoid the area and check OHGO.com for the latest information on the closure."
