LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A gas leak was reported at a Jefferson County middle school on Tuesday prompting students and staff to be moved out of the building.

In a letter to parents, JCPS officials said the gas leak was confirmed at Highland Middle School.

Principal Vanessa Green said Louisville Fire was called earlier in the morning after a gas odor was smelled in the building.

All students and staff were immediately evacuated to Bellarmine University's Knights Hall as a precaution. Everyone was reported safe.

The school said parents and guardians can sign out their child early at 200 Norris Place. Any students who remain at Bellarmine will be dismissed for bus transport at the regular time, which is 2:30 p.m., the district added.

All after school activities have since been canceled as well.
