MAINE, USA — Maine’s U.S. senators are raising concerns after the Trump administration said it will fund only part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the ongoing government shutdown. More than 170,000 Maine residents rely on SNAP benefits.

The announcement came after two federal judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island ruled Friday that the administration must continue paying for SNAP using emergency reserve funds. The judges allowed the administration discretion to fund the program either partially or fully for November, according to the Associated Press.
