Alabama has suspended sophomore cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. following an arrest over the weekend, coach Kalen DeBoer announced on Monday.

Kirkpatrick is an Alabama legacy player and the son of former All-American Crimson Tide corner Dre Kirkpatrick. He was arrested in Tuscaloosa on Saturday on three counts of reckless endangerment, attempting to elude, reckless driving and failure/refusal to comply with first-responders’ orders, according to a report from AL.com's Carol Robinson.

He was also reportedly cited for not wearing a seatbelt, tinted windows and reasonable and prudent speed.

Though details of Kirkpatrick's arrest were not initially known, court documents obtained by AL.com revealed that he allegedly sped off from police in his Mercedes during an attempted traffic stop early Saturday morning. He was booked and released Saturday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, with the information that I have at this time, I talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him," DeBoer said. "He understands there are consequences that come with his actions.”

Kirkpatrick has appeared in 21 games in his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, including all eight this season. His action has primarily come on special teams while also providing depth in the defensive backfield. He has 12 career tackles (one for loss) with a pass deflection and a forced fumble.
