PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Governor Larry Rhoden has appointment a new judge to serve as a supreme court justice for the First Supreme District.

Presiding Judge Robert Gusinsky of the Seventh Circuit will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Janine Kern.

The First Supreme Court District includes the counties of Custer, Lawrence, Meade and Pennington.

Gusinsky served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office before being appointed to the 7th Circuit bench.

In 2024, the Chief Justice named Gusinsky to presiding judge of the Seventh Circuit.
