MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Superintendent Helena Tillar is cutting ties with the Marlboro County School District for the second time in less than 10 years as officials work through a financial crisis that led to state intervention.
Board members on Monday night unanimously accepted Tillar's resignation before voting to hash out a mutually approved separation agreement, which wasn't immediately made public.
The move came after a two-hour executive session.
Tillar rejoined the 4,000-student district in 2023 after leading it from 2010 through 2017. She took over for Gergory A. McCord, who resigned in October 2021 after allowing his fraternity to operate on school property without notifying the board.
