SARASOTA, COUNTY, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is actively investigating a deputy-involved shooting that took place this morning at the Saratoga Place at Palmer Ranch complex, located at 5050 Central Sarasota Parkway.

The incident unfolded after the Emergency Operations Bureau received a distressing 911 notification at 8:53 a.m. from a caller who was threatening to harm himself.

Deputies from the Patrol Bureau were immediately dispatched to the scene, with the first deputy arriving at 9:05 a.m. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the subject outside of the residence.

According to the SCSO, the subject was armed with a kitchen knife. The deputy issued multiple verbal commands instructing the subject to drop the weapon. The subject reportedly failed to comply
