NORFOLK, New York (WWNY) - With SNAP benefits reduced or gone, North Country people and businesses are stepping up to help those who may be hungry.
“Unfortunately, it took this to get everybody to come together, but it’s nice that everybody is coming together to help everybody out,” said Bobbi Phillips, owner of Cafe 56.
Beginning this week at Cafe 56 in Norfolk, Phillips is offering free meals for children until SNAP benefits are restored.
“Let the waitresses know that you’re bringing the kids in to get a hot dog or a grilled cheese, and they just won’t charge you for it,” she said.
