PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The Peoria Police Chief said rumors of ICE being in Peoria are not correct.

Chief Eric Echevarria said the law enforcement presence was ATF along with members of the Peoria Area Federal Firearms Task Force doing scheduled training.

The task force, formed in 2023, is comprised of the following:

ATF

FBI

Peoria Police Department

Peoria County Sheriff’s Office

Illinois State Police

Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Unit

Echevarria said under the Illinois TRUST Act, local law enforcement is prohibited from participating in federal immigration enforcement operations.

Echevarria also said that to help reduce fears and avoid misinformation in the future, the department will provide advanced community notice before any police training that occurs outside
