U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Selma, strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s “sickening” decision to not provide SNAP benefits until the government shutdown ends .

Sewell responded on X to a Truth Social post Trump made Tuesday where he said SNAP benefits will be, “given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government.”

Funding for the food assistance program ended Saturday amid the ongoing government shutdown.

“This president has lost his mind!,” Sewell said. “The fact that he would defy court orders in order to starve hungry families is sickening. Mr. President, follow the law, do your job, and release the SNAP funds!!!”
