If the College Football Playoff started Tuesday, Alabama would be in the field at No. 4, with a bye to the quarterfinals. The CFP does not, in fact, start Tuesday, so that information is only so useful, but the first rankings of the 2025 did show that the selection committee favors the Crimson Tide.
According to CFP selection committee chair Mack Rhoads, UA’s recent play was the reason for the high ranking. Just Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M were ahead of Alabama in Tuesday’s top 25.
“I’m not sure when you look at resume, anybody had a better stretch of four games,” Rhoads said. “When you think about Alabama, really, really impressive. Two of those wins on the road. Going into Athens, one of the hardest, toughest environments, to be able to get out of there with a win.”
