NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The man accused of stabbing his friend in North Kingstown Monday night has been charged with felony assault.

James Staley Jr., 21, has been charged with domestic assault and battery, domestic disorderly conduct and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Staley, who lives with the victim, was taken into custody after stabbing his friend in the back inside their McConnell Court home, according to police.

Police said the victim was brought to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Staley was granted $20,000 surety bail Tuesday and ordered not to contact the victim. His next court date is slated for Jan. 13.
