BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Trial began on Tuesday for a man charged with killing two people in Chittenden County on the same night.

While a motive for the two murders remains unclear, prosecutors said they have a mountain of evidence pointing to one man being responsible for both.

Burlington police arrested Denroy Dasent in October 2022 after they said he shot and killed Sheikhnoor Osman in a Pine Street apartment in Burlington, and then later that same night, also shot and killed Brian Billings at his home at the Swiss Host Motel in South Burlington.

“I’m confident that after you’ve heard the testimony and reviewed all of the evidence, you will find Denroy Dasent guilty of these two killings,” Chittenden County Deputy State’s Attorney Kelton Olney said in opening statements in a Burlingt
