A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer listens during a briefing, Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, in Silver Spring, Md. AP
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents recently detained Ali Faqirzada after a hearing in Long Island; while he did indeed enter the country illegally to file his asylum claim, the honorable course is to release him, so the courts can rapidly resolve his application.
Unlike the overwhelming major of Biden-era “asylum seekers,” Faqirzada is the real deal.
He fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took over, credibly fearing for his life since he worked for a government agency that issued licenses to US companies doing work there; seven others in his family have won asylum; he turned himself into the Border Patrol after crossing, and has committed no other crime
