WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Highway Patrol is celebrating the opening of a new aircraft hangar at Hays Regional Airport.

The 6,800-square-foot hangar, finished in May, will be the base for KHP's Air Support Unit, offering space for aircraft, offices and a conference room for training and flight planning.

Troopers held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hangar last month and posted about the event on social media on Tuesday.

"Regional airports such as Hays provide vital and critical resources to local communities that reach far beyond air travel, especially when assisting with emergency response," Jamie Salter, airport director, said in a news release.
