FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Fort Wayne City Council voted Tuesday to eliminate a $815,000 sign welcoming people to Fort Wayne from the city’s 2026 budget.
The new sign was set to be installed along northbound I-69 at the Jefferson Boulevard exit. The project was originally quoted at $750,000, but according to an ordinance approving a construction contract for the sign, the actual price would have been about $815,000.
This ordinance involves only the Jefferson Boulevard sign and does not include proposed signs on Dupont Road and U.S. 30.
Tuesday night’s vote came just a week after the council approved millions of dollars in budget cuts that impacted trails, work at Science Central, and improvement plans for southeast Fort Wayne.
