Iowa Homes for Heroes, a nonprofit organization in Iowa, is helping veterans and first responders find a place to call home, celebrating the completion of its first home in Urbandale.

The organization, which launched late last month, aims to build and donate homes to those who serve and protect the country.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds attended the event to mark the milestone and shared how the state became involved in the initiative.

"I got a call from Dan Rubrik and I don't know if anybody's got a call from Dan Roback, but he had this idea on the spot, and he wanted to know what the state was doing to help some of our disabled veterans that have sacrificed and served our country with honor and dignity," Reynolds said.
