ATLANTA, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation has installed a display of crosses at its Atlanta District Headquarters to represent the 82 lives lost on roadways in the district last year.
“This is a visual graveyard to represent the 82 lives lost on our roadways in this district,” said Heather Deaton with TxDOT. “We want people to see it as they drive by and to really think about what this symbolizes.”
Friday, November 7, will mark 25 years since the last deathless day on Texas roads. TxDOT leaders say during that time, the state has lost more than 91,000 people in traffic crashes.
Last year, in the Atlanta district alone, there were 6,100 crashes resulting in 82 deaths. To honor those 82 deaths, TxDOT partnered with Atlanta High School students to produce a video emphasizing
