An ancient volcanic crater in South Australia is now home to Australia's largest disc golf tournament.
The Valley Lake in Mount Gambier is believed to have erupted between 4,300 and 6,000 years ago, making it the most recent eruption in Australian history.
The eruptions exposed the watertable in the area and created the Valley Lake, as well as the neighbouring Blue Lake.
Every year about 200 people come from across Australia to participate in The Eruption, a disc golf tournament that has grown since the pandemic to become the most anticipated event on the sport's calendar.
"We started the event in COVID times and the numbers were fewer than 100, all the way up to this year's registrations where we hit 250," tournament director Michelle Schultz said.
