FREEPORT (WREX) — The uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits amid the ongoing government shutdown has put thousands in the region in difficult situations. As the shutdown enters its fifth week, food pantries are experiencing high demand, including the Freeport Area Church Cooperative.

13 WREX is gearing up for the Freeport Food Drive, with support from Cornerstone Credit Union. Riley Willson, Member Service Manager at Cornerstone Credit Union, expressed excitement for the event, saying, "Right now we're going to start shopping. We have a donation from the Credit Union and Sullivan's as well. We're partnering together to get some needed items for the community that we need this year."
