PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The fifth and final Greater Peoria Honor Flight of the year took off Tuesday morning, giving dozens of veterans the trip of a lifetime.

The flight takes veterans to Washington, D.C., for what is bound to be an emotional day.

73 veterans and their caregivers will spend the day visiting war memorials and monuments, all free of charge.

Veterans are expected to make the journey back home, arriving around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

This was made possible by the non-profit, the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
