The aging Vancouver Aquatic Centre is closed indefinitely for a thorough assessment after part of the ceiling fell this week.
The Vancouver park board confirmed the facility closed on Monday afternoon after “a small piece of concrete fell from the ceiling into one of the swim lanes.”
“No patrons or staff were injured,” said a statement from the board. “As a precaution, the facility was closed while a structural engineer completes a thorough assessment, which is currently ongoing.”
Any patrons or user groups affected by the closure will receive refunds.
“The VAC will remain closed until the assessment is complete,” the statement read. No details were given as to how long an assessment of a building this size would take.
