MINNEAPOLIS — It's a new era with a familiar face in the Twin Cities.
Derek Shelton , the former bench coach for the Minnesota Twins, was named the 15th manager in club history.
On Tuesday, Twins officials held a press conference to introduce Shelton to the media and former players.
"Even though I only spent a couple of years here, I really feel like a member of Twins Territory," Shelton said.
Shelton returns to the Twins after leading the Pittsburgh Pirates over the past several seasons. He was let go from his role as manager there in May.
"I think the fact that we went through a really tough time, I mean, we had lost some games in a row," Shelton said. "I think when all teams go through that, there probably needs to be a change and it was probably the right time."
