On a beautiful, sunny day in Luzerne County, voters hit the polls to decide which direction their local government will take in the near future.

The candidates for the most talked about municipal positions, meanwhile, sent their supporters to the county’s many polling places, hoping to score a last-minute campaigning surge. Chris Cognigni, of Plains Twp., was posted outside of John S. Fine High School Field House off of Kosciuszko Street in Nanticoke. He was canvassing on behalf of his son, also named Chris Cognigni, who is the Republican challenger to incumbent Democrat Mayor Kevin Coughlin.
