KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The country of Jamaica is in the early days of rebuilding after a Category 5 hurricane struck the island last week. Melissa left destruction in its wake, and tourists have been unable to leave until now, including a couple from Maryville.
Chris and Yvonna Daugherty are finally headed back to McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, after being stuck in Jamaica for more than a week. The couple was originally scheduled to leave the island on the Sunday before the hurricane hit, but the airport shut down hours before their scheduled flight.
"They said everybody should be gone today [Tuesday] at some point, but up until today, every day, flights canceled, flights canceled... and there's nothing wrong with the airport. And everybody's been in the same boat. People have ran out
