R Mukundan, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Chemicals , said the company is moving ahead with major expansion plans in India to meet rising domestic demand.
The company plans to add 200,000 tonne of salt capacity; 500,000 tonne of soda ash capacity, and 60,000–80,000 tonne of sodium bicarbonate capacity at its Mithapur site. Mukundan said these projects are part of Tata Chemicals' strategy to strengthen its domestic operations, where “all indicators and triggers are moving fine.”
He added that new products such as food-grade orthophosphates (FOS) and precipitated silica are gaining traction. Sales of FOS rose from about 750 tonne to 830 tonne this quarter, while silica demand remains strong, but production is constrained by capacity until new facilities are ready in the next two year
