LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A unique internship at the University of Louisville is giving students the chance to learn a unique but impactful skill that makes a big difference to the school’s natural ecosystem.
For almost as long as he can remember, Gavin Phillips has had an interest in the honeycomb creating, flying insects that pollinate our world. That interest, sparked by a neighbor he had growing up in Cincinnati, has stuck around all these years later.
“For me, this was kind of like an escape early on in my life,” Phillips said as he stood next to a beehive wearing his sting-proof beekeeping suit.
Now a senior at UofL pursuing a degree in molecular biology, Phillips can be found in his off time tending to the school’s apiary, that’s home to these two hives.
