KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The polls are closed, and the citizens of Wyandotte County have cast their votes on who they want to see as county sheriff. Here are the results so far:

Soptic has served as Wyandotte County Sheriff since November 2021. He began his law enforcement career 21 years ago as a Kansas City, Kansas, park ranger before the department merged with the sheriff’s office. He has since moved his way up in the agency.

Celisha Towers is another familiar name that returned to the ballot this year.

Towers ran for sheriff in previous elections and lost to Soptic in November 2021. Back in 2017, she filed a lawsuit against the sheriff’s office for discrimination, as well as another lawsuit following the 2021 general election for alleged “election improprieties.”
