GREENSBORO, N.C. — Janet Ward Black, a prominent Greensboro attorney and owner of Ward Black Law Firm, died Sunday, November 2, at the age of 66.
According to the law firm, Black previously served as president of both the North Carolina Association of Trial Lawyers and the North Carolina Bar Association. She received numerous awards over the years, including the North Carolina State Bar's Distinguished Service Award in 2009 and the Order of the Long Leaf Line in 2016.
Black also founded the 4ALL Statewide Service Day - an annual event that helps provide free legal information to North Carolinians.
Before her career in law, Black was Miss North Carolina in 1980 and won the Grant Talent award at the 1980 Miss America pageant.
