LUBBOCK, Texas -- In the first rankings reveal from the College Football Playoff committee, Texas Tech found itself ranked eighth.

For the first time since the playoff's creation in 2014, the Red Raiders cracked the Top 25 of the committee's rankings. The team's opponent this Saturday, BYU, checked in one-spot above them at No. 7. The final Big 12 team to see its name called was Utah, as the Utes were No. 13 with losses only to the Red Raiders and Cougars.

It is important to note that these rankings do not automatically qualify Texas Tech for the College Football Playoff, but rather serve as a preview from how the committee views the landscape of the sport before the field is eventually set on December 7.
