Democrats are optimistic as early results show Proposition 50 may pass in California’s 2025 Special Election. The redistricting measure would create five new Democratic-leaning congressional seats and counter similar efforts by Republican-led states. Speaking from the California Democratic Party headquarters, Rep. Ami Bera said he supports independent commissions but views Prop 50 as necessary to ensure fairness. If it passes, Bera will decide whether to run in District 6 or the newly drawn District 3, currently held by Republican Kevin Kiley. Former State Senator Richard Pan has already announced a run in that district.
