NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — Four candidates faced off in the New Britain mayoral race after Republican Erin Stewart, who held the seat for 12 years, announced she would not seek reelection.

Democrat Bobby Sanchez declared victory over the Republican candidate, backed by Stewart, Sharon Beloin-Saavedra, an alderwoman in the City of New Britain and a member of the Board of Education.

Tarsha Renee Moore and Alfred Mayo were on the ballot as petitioning candidates.
