BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Birmingham City Council unanimously approved $1 million in assistance Tuesday, Nov. 4 to help residents whose SNAP benefits have been disrupted.
The city reports one in four households in Birmingham receive SNAP benefits. With the the program in limbo, about a quarter of homes are wondering where their next meal will come from.
“For so many, SNAP means the difference between a hot meal and going to bed hungry,” said U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell.
How residents can access the funds
About 23,000 households will be eligible for a portion of the funds, said Birmingham City Council President Wardine Alexander.
