CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Though many of the races for the Charlotte City Council were already decided, two were guaranteed to bring change to the dais.

In District 3 covering Steele Creek and much of west Charlotte, those residents will have new representation. After Democrat Joi Mayo defeated incumbent Tiawana Brown in the primary, she faced Republican James Bowers and non-partisan Robin Emmons as challengers.

With 12 of 20 precincts reporting, Mayo was leading with 74.5 percent of the vote, with Bowers second with 15.3.

There also will be a new face representing south Charlotte, but not necessarily a new name. Republican Krista Bokhari was looking to replace her husband for the District 6 seat. After Tariq resigned in the spring to take a role in the Trump administration,
