ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – Voters in Athens County on Tuesday approved an EMS tax levy that provides funding for emergency services, as well approve a 9-1-1 levy.

According to unofficial returns, the EMS tax levy passed by a 5,127-to-3,298 vote.

The levy has been in place for more than a decade. This time, however, the amount of money property owners pay on the levy will go up.

We spoke with fire department officials in Athens County who said the levy is vital for keeping stations up and running throughout the county.

Meanwhile, the 9-1-1 levy passed by a 5,287-to-3,136 vote.
