HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii announced a temporary grace period for registration holds across all 10 campuses Tuesday.
A letter from UH president Wendy Hensel said students can register for Spring 2026 even with unpaid Fall quarter balances.
Hensel said the grace period is designed to support students during the federal government shutdown and disruptions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“I know that the extended federal government shutdown and disruptions to essential programs like SNAP benefits have created unexpected financial challenges for many of you,” Hensel said.
Students can pay off their balances by enrolling in a payment plan or by paying in full by Jan. 9, 2026, she said.
