In the Nov. 4 election, New Jersey voters will select a new governor and will also elect all 80 members of the General Assembly, the lower house in the state Legislature.

In the highly competitive race for New Jersey governor — Gov. Phil Murphy is retiring, having served two terms — Rep. Mike Sherrill, the Montclair Democrat who represents the 11th Congressional District, faces former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican candidate who lives in Somerville.

Polls, which broadly favored Sherrill througout the race, tightened as early voting began and Election Day loomed.

In the election for New Jersey's Assembly seats, Republicans, long in the minority, were hoping to make inroads.
