Syracuse, N.Y. — A slate of races that were mostly uncontested since before the spring primary election has produced a couple of new faces for the Syracuse Common Council, a shift in roles for one of the incumbents and the same all-Democratic composition of the 10-person body.

At-large Common Councilor Rita Paniagua, a Democrat, will be the next council president. She ran unopposed for the seat that’s empty because incumbent President Helen Hudson is reaching the end of her term limit after eight years.

Incumbent Rasheada Caldwell and newcomer Hanah Ehrenreich are the winners in the race for two at-large council seats. They did not have competition this fall after winning a four-person Democratic primary over Hasahn Bloodworth and incumbent Amir Gethers in the primary.
