PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - The first College Football Playoff poll was released on Tuesday, and as of now, BYU is in the playoffs.

The Cougars were ranked #7 in the poll, while Utah was ranked higher than many people expected at #13. Teams have to be in the top-12 in order to have a chance in the 12-team playoffs.

The Utes will almost assuredly have to win the Big 12 Championship to make the playoffs.

The highest ranked Group of Five school will also make the field. As of this week, that would be Memphis, who is ranked outside the top-25.

BYU faces its toughest challenge of the season this Saturday against #8 Texas Tech in Lubbock.
