PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Early returns show voters across Maricopa County are divided on Proposition 409, a nearly $900 million bond that would help Valleywise Health , the county’s public health care system.
According to results posted at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, there is 50.96% in favor of a bond approval, compared to 49.04% opposed, a difference of about 11,000 votes.
In April, the Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board of Directors voted unanimously to put a $898 million bond question in the hands of voters this year.
In 2014, 63% of voters in Maricopa County approved a $935 million bond for Valleywise Health, which was used to build and open the new medical center last year.
Officials have said the money would be used to build a new 200-bed behavioral health hospital
