EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Seven Spartans scored in double figures as No. 23 Michigan State women’s basketball broke its single-game scoring record in a 125-39 win over Mercyhurst in the Spartans’ regular season opener.
Michigan State shot 49-79 (62%) from the floor and 13-28 (46.4%) on three-pointers, shattering the previous program record for points in a game, which was 116.
The Spartans racked up 24 steals and six blocks as Mercyhurst totaled more turnovers (36) than shot attempts (35).
Theryn Hallock led Michigan State with 19 points and six steals. Grace VanSlooten scored 18 points.
Rashunda Jones and Amy Terrian each scored 15 points in their MSU debuts. Emma Shumate scored 14, and Kennedy Blair had 14 points and a team-high 12 assists.
