GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- Despite an extremely close race, Greenville County voters chose Dianne Mitchell as the Republican candidate headed to the SC House District 21 special election in December.
Mitchell defeated Steve Nail by just 22 votes in Tuesday's primary runoff.
Greenville County elections officials said a mandatory recount will be ordered.
The seat was previously held by Republican Bobby Cox, who resigned from his seat after expressing plans to run for a seat on the state Senate.
Election Director Conway Belangia says turnout today was only about 10% across the entire district, which put lots of weight on those who did go to the polls.
