VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Many voters across Hampton Roads showed up to the polls on Election Day to make their voices heard.
The city of Portsmouth had a 44% voter turnout, with more than 31,000 ballots cast. Both Suffolk and Norfolk had a turnout of about 40%. Chesapeake had a 51% turnout and more than 94,000 ballots cast.
Meanwhile, Virginia Beach had more than 96,000 ballots cast with a 29% voter turnout.
10 On Your Side spoke with voters there about why it was important for them to vote.
"You're supposed to contribute, and you're supposed to share your voice and share your opinion, and voting is the most widespread way to do that," Bea Nattress said.
The Jenkins family made sure to also show up and cast their ballots.
