GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island Public School District is considering expansion options as the city’s population continues to grow, potentially requiring new schools or facility upgrades.

“Over the next seven to 25 years, Grand Island should be growing anywhere from 7,000 and 25,000 people,” said Matt Fischer with the Grand Island Public School District.

High school expansion among key considerations

Due to the growing population in Grand Island, the school district may have to expand current facilities or build additional schools.

“One of the biggest questions is where are we going with the high school, or do we need a second school,” Fischer said.

The high school decision is one of several options the district is examining as city leaders say people are moving to the area.
