ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The race to become the next mayor of one of Georgia’s newest cities is headed to a runoff.

As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Carmalitha Gumbs and Mark Baker were leading first and second, respectively, in a crowded field in the metro Atlanta city of South Fulton.

Gumbs was leading with 39 percent (9,952 votes) to Baker’s 19 percent (4,925). William Edwards was in third at 17 percent (4,246). A total of 52 out of 65 precincts were reporting.

Back in August, after first saying he would not run for reelection, current Mayor Khalid Kamau changed course and decided that he would.
