Optus has confirmed an outage in the Hunter Valley region which has affected mobile voice and data services, and may affect triple-zero connectivity.

As of 3pm on Wednesday, the telecommunications company announced that a fibre break in the Port Stephens, Maitland, and surrounding areas had caused disruptions.

"We are responding to a fibre break impacting customers in the Port Stephens, Maitland, and surrounding areas,” the network update said.

“The ability to connect to triple zero may be impacted for some. Optus technicians are onsite working to restore services as quickly as possible.

“We apologise to impacted customers and will continue to provide regular updates.”

The company said that more than 34,000 services may be affected by the disruption.
