JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A young mother in Jacksonville is celebrating an emotional milestone during a tough battle with advanced cancer.
33-year-old Kaneha Deassis moved to Jacksonville from the Philippines in 2022 and was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer just months after giving birth.
Despite her illness, she fulfilled two of her biggest wishes Tuesday — a wedding and a baptism for her nine-month-old daughter — right from her hospital bed at Mayo Clinic.
Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, Deassis said "I do" and watched as her baby Corazon was baptized — moments filled with joy and tears.
"I don't know how to explain," she said. "Just very happy."
